Hands-on conservation tours at Ol Kinyei or Lewa Conservancy.
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi & Orientation
Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met and transferred to a comfortable eco-lodge in Nairobi. After settling in, you will receive a briefing on Kenya’s wildlife conservation efforts. Later, visit the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, where you will learn about elephant rescue and rehabilitation. The evening will be spent at leisure, preparing for the journey ahead.
Day 2: Transfer to Conservancy & Induction
After an early breakfast, travel to a wildlife conservancy such as Ol Pejeta, Lewa, or Maasai Mara. Upon arrival, you will check in at the volunteer camp and meet the conservation team. A safety briefing and introduction to conservation activities will follow. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive to familiarize yourself with the landscape and wildlife species in the area.
Day 3: Wildlife Monitoring & Data Collection
Spend the day assisting rangers in tracking rhinos, elephants, or lions. Learn how to use GPS tracking devices and record crucial data on animal movements and behavior. This information helps conservationists monitor population trends and identify potential threats. Later, visit an animal rehabilitation center to see firsthand how injured or orphaned wildlife are cared for before being released back into the wild.
Day 4: Habitat Restoration & Anti-Poaching
Join conservation teams in habitat restoration efforts by planting trees and removing invasive plant species that disrupt the ecosystem. Participate in anti-poaching patrols alongside rangers, helping to remove snares and identify potential threats to wildlife. In the evening, gather around a campfire for discussions on conservation challenges and success stories.
Day 5: Community Engagement
Visit a local school or Maasai village and engage with the community on wildlife conservation and human-wildlife conflict resolution. Learn about traditional ways of coexisting with wildlife and support eco-tourism initiatives that provide alternative livelihoods. In the evening, head out for a special game drive to observe nocturnal wildlife.
Day 6: Ranger Experience & Rescue Operations
Spend the day shadowing wildlife rangers as they patrol the conservancy. Assist in monitoring protected species and, if needed, take part in a rescue operation for injured or orphaned animals. Gain insight into the daily challenges faced by conservation teams and how they work to protect endangered species. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with the team to celebrate your contributions.
Day 7: Departure & Optional Excursions
On your final morning, take part in a guided bush walk or game drive before departing for Nairobi. Depending on your schedule, you may opt to visit the Giraffe Centre or a Maasai market for souvenirs. Finally, you will be transferred to the airport or your preferred location in Nairobi.
